babel_hacker | Day 39

[Now that’s a familiar face. For anyone that’s been paying attention, Atsuro wasn't seen on the network for a while, which is usually odd even with distractions. He looks at his PokeGear, the young man looking a bit baffled if anything.]

So, guys. Just verify this for me. Today is September 18th, right? And not August 27th? ‘cuz last I check, it was still August. I don’t know if it’s just me, the dates got changed or the world got hit by a fast forward button.

[A pause, before he continues. Behind him is a Jumpluff drifting around, going up a little higher when the Pokemon Center’s doors open and the breeze flows inside.]

And I’m pretty sure I was about to leave for Cerulean from Pewter. But somehow, I’m over at Cinnabar Island’s Pokemon Center the next moment.

[His mind is buzzing with various ideas, speculations based on his theories he made about this world. A world that literally works on video game physics, a virtual reality simulation aimed to train Pokemon for an army (his personal favourite theory, yet to be proven)...

Some kind of "glitch"?]

So I could’ve gotten hit by a random teleportation, but I need an explanation for going from August to September. I know I didn’t go into those comas, since my Pokemon can back that up. Or I went home and returned, because my roster’s numbers is still the same.

[As Atsuro talks, or rather speaking his thoughts out loud, his Jumpluff landed on his hat wearing head and shake her cotton-like spores like a cheerleader. The screen shake a little when Atsuro set down his PokeGear, freeing his hands to reach up and take her off his head.]

They don't remember anything, so about the same as I do.

[Speaking of Pokemon, asking his boxed roster wouldn't offer anything new. He did check on their information and reconfirmed they're still registered under his name.]

Could it be that you were almost sent home, but that it did not quite work properly?

[Unlikely, but any idea is possible at that point.]

...I don't know if that idea's better or worse.

[Since he's been stuck here for over two years, and not once did he went back. The idea of possibly going home, but didn't for some reason, made him think of the important battle he's taken from.

It's that feeling of being away from doing something half-finished, magnified by a lot.]

...I'm quite certain it can be both at the same time.

[Ah, that feeling he could understand, considering his... state when he was taken.]

Yeah... But I wouldn't mind going home to finish things off. I guess this world changed its mind and want to keep me around a little longer.

[He just need like, half an hour to finish everything, one hour top.]

I wonder if that's a sign that you are on the path to completing whatever task for which we were brought here?

[How lucky. For all Cecil knows he only has an hour.]

[The time limit Atsuro and his friends was working under was pretty strict.]

Possibly. If that's the case, what is my task? I'm not the only trainer around here, unless my supposed task require my particular skills.

It might. Or perhaps your progress as a trainer is simply considered satisfactory. Or perhaps you were simply caught in a strange teleportation accident, and it could have happened to anyone.

[The possibilities are endless!]

Which makes it a little frustrating to try and figure out. If it's a teleportation accident, the teleporter's most likely too far away from me right now to track down.

[They could be in another city or even over in Johto.]

And if it was a wild Pokémon, identifying it would be nearly impossible even if it was your neighbor.

Which means that lead's effectively a dead end, opening us up to try others instead.

Such as the possibility that this world merely enjoys sending us to inconvenient locations?

Uh huh. I was planning on coming to Cinnabar, just not this early in my plans. This world just loves to disrupt our plans sometimes.

You can easily grab a Flying-type and move on, at least. You could have been left somewhere without a PC instead.

Fortunately, I always haver a flier on my team. In case there's an emergency and I need to fly somewhere. I could've end up somewhere that's hard to fly in.

Or have my team mixed up behind my back.

Or found yourself with Pokémon you barely remember meeting in the first place. Possibly Magikarps.

I hope those Magikarps know Tackle, or else training them would take a while. You could've end up with Metapods or Kakuna with just Harden.

Or Abras that only know Teleport, and that only use it to travel to caves and forests.

I wouldn't mind forests as much, since people on fliers can land on the ground easier than in caves if I call for help. So the Abras would be annoying and inconvenient.

...Just as long my camping supplies are safe and the food stay edible. [Priorities. At least Atsuro sorted out his priorities a long time ago.]

...Now that you've said that, this world will ensure that you'll misplace everything next time, you know.

...If that's the case, I will have no one to blame but myself. And the world, while I'm at it.

You could try avoiding that by attaching your supplies to yourself. This world has introduced me to duct tape; it's a glorious invention.

So things attached directly to us are safe. Except for our Pokemon, sometimes?

[More or less stating it out. Just where does this world draw the line at? Any categories it favours more?]

...Our clothes are safe, at least. Perhaps keeping our bags and pokéballs under our shirts would help.

...We'd look pretty silly like that if we do that every time we go anywhere.

[The pokéballs are small enough, buuuut there's the size of their bags.]
