Day 45 - [Text]

[Compared to his post last week, this one is...reasonably less silly. After all, a glance at the date told him all he needs to know. Well, he’s reminded of it again after remembering a friend’s--who’s not even here--birthday the other day.

And it was so close to his anniversary here.]

This is more for long time residents, but others can pitch in if they want.

I’ve been here for almost three years, with my anniversary being practically tomorrow. I could go all sappy and type out a lot of stuff here, but I guess I’m reminded of how long I’ve been here. Between travelling and staying in each cities for some time (a couple less than others, because not all of them are as convenient as the bigger cities).

I’m still travelling around Kanto right now, but once I’m done, I might get a house for my Pokemon and myself.

Basically, any suggestions or advices for seeking a house? Ideally somewhere where my bigger Pokemon can go around, but I can handle a good backyard for Unit 01 (my Golurk, by the way).

...Also, friendly to slimes from our slimey friends.

I’m looking at either Goldenrod, Celadon or Saffron because of the department stores and/or train station.

Well, the government doesn't need mystical powers if they can literally cook us alive with technology.

And cover it all up by saying everyone's hallucinating to the rest of the world.

That sounds like particularly unpleasant technology, compared to what can be seen here. But you should know by now that 'everyone was hallucinating or dreaming' is not an excuse that people accept.

It really is. We figured out it's a counter-terrorism method to kill the enemy without damaging the buildings.

I know that, but the government's a hide it and pretend they have it in control type. It does help they put the situation under a controlled media blackout. So if it's like I imagine, they'd use both the media blackout and the hallucination excuse to muddle the truth.

...I'm not quite certain that would suffice to counter humanity's love of talking to everyone they meet, expecially of their grievances against their leaders.

Yeah. Which is probably why they try to minimise attempts at taking physical evidences. Dunno how they will handle cameras and digital phones that can take photos.

That might be interesting for me to see their damage control if I'm home.

Plus the news would love this sorts of stuff. "Government Subject Citizens to Suffering for a cause! Failure?"

It'd certainly make a popular story than 'Government Raises Taxes Again! Our Money, Wasted?' Even if that particular complaint is always popular.

I imagine I'd make similiar complaints if I'm home and living independently. [His parents are still paying the bills for him.] People really don't want to waste their money, so they'd complain if they see their government using their money for something that looks stupid.

Raising taxes to support the nobility's lifestyle is foolish and worthy of criticism. But raising taxes to improve the port and repair the damaged caused to a nearby village is a worthy sacrifice.

[Especially when the previous and current kings were responsible for destroying the village in the first place.]

Pretty much, especially if the government let people know about it. Instead of just raising taxes without any official announcement.

Even if they blatantly lie during the announcement.

No self-respecting ruler should ever lie to their people, blatantly or not, but self-repect can be less common than you'd imagine.

You would think more people should have it. But pride and greed can just overpowers it very easily, along with a healthy dose of self-preservations.

What is the point of preserving yourself, if you lose even the trust of others to do so?

Because people really don't want to die, so they do whatever it takes to survive. Even if it means doing bad things.

And in doing so, they risk drawing the world's hatred. Surviving a dangerous situation is important, but it's worthless if other survivors murder you later out of revenge.

Right. Which leads to why most leaders have their own bodyguards and try to control the flow of information for their safety. If it's someone else's fault, they won't get murdered for it.

...Why would they need bodyguards? The average king is a much stronger fighter than any member of his army. Otherwise, someone else would be king.

...Okay, so, I'm guessing you haven't heard about the typical government structure in my world yet.

[He'll just be summarising it because ahaha at the different forms of government.]

The Emperor of Japan's basically a symbol, with most of the power in the government branches and in the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister covers signing laws and presenting them. That kind of stuff. I think the other countries doesn't really have "strong warriors become the king" system. Just whoever have a lot of power, political or military, even if they're not fighters themselves.

Spreading the power over multiple people would have its uses if the highest ranking person is corrupted, I' ve no doubt, but how can your people feel safe if they do not have a leader willing to personally protect them from threats? Political power is useless, when faced with monsters.

They would be angry and frustrated, probably demanding them to take action. Even if political power is useless, there's still the police and SDF they can deploy against monsters. Probably without any actual training against said monsters.

...That's asking to get them all killed. Every member of the army should have some practice battling any potential threat, or else their lives will be wasted.

Yeah. They're more used to fighting against fellow humans than actual monsters. And it's a problem when conventional weaponry doesn't work as well against it, but...it's people. I know they can adapt.

But I can't deny that some people's lives would get wasted.

Every life wasted is a life too many, but I'm afraid I do not know of any world that has discovered how to win battles without any casualties.

I think it's impossible, personally. Maybe there's a world out there, but winning a battle without any losses sound almost...too surreal.

Even if you somehow manage to keep everyone on your side alive, the enemy will surely suffer numerous deaths. That is perfectly fine if the enemy is not truly sentient, but otherwise...
